About CompressToSize
CompressToSize shrinks an image to a file size you specify, in your browser, without uploading anything.
Why this site exists
Every other compressor makes you guess: you move a quality slider and find out the file size afterwards. But almost nobody actually wants "smaller" — they want "under 100KB, because the form says so". This site inverts the control so you set the number and the encoder works out the rest.
Where the data comes from
There is no data to source. The tool decodes your image with the browser canvas API, re-encodes it at a range of quality settings, and measures the real byte count each time. The resolution guidance on each page is derived from a bytes-per-pixel estimate for typical photographic content and is presented as an estimate, not a guarantee.
Corrections
If you find a value that is wrong, please say so — corrections from readers are the fastest way this site improves. Email hello@compresstosize.com with the page and the value you measured, and it will be checked against the source.
Who runs it
A small independent project. It is funded by the advertising on the page, which is why there is no signup, no watermark and no upload limit.
